We have created the title “Tengu no Deshi (天狗之弟子)” while writing the application for LFAJRB 2012. I was not admitted to the event yet, of course, but the preparation itself was an interesting experience nonetheless. We did not want to use anything honorific (“deshi” is a disciple, not a master) or spiritual. We took the inspiration from the Tengu mask prepared for a live performance. Tengu is a being with a long history – with a number of tales, deeds that are both good and bad, they are beings behaving as they please and find appropriate at the time. Sometimes they are considered kind-hearted; sometimes people think of them as cocky dogs. Some of them were perhaps more human than some people.

Moreover, Tengu are surrounded by numerous stories, a rich mythology, magic … it is literary
wonderful inspiration for my works and performances. I don’t think of it as playing someone else, or pretending to have a different nationality … I see it as inspiration.

The chance to create something intimate with a beautiful woman using a tool – rope – that opens a
scaleo of new horizons and opportunities, the emotions, the passion … a different world … these are
the moments I do all this for. It is the main stimulus. Everything else is just fun.
